10 January 2018New Pages
The long Winter nights are a great time for making progress on projects.
This Winter the Archive has been working on a few new pages for their website. One is now available to view. It's called Stillington Snippets and comprises of short pieces gathered when trawling through old newspapers - usually looking for something else! There are articles, letters and notices, the earliest being from 1740 and latest from 1968. They cover unusual sporting activities, natural history and random, but interesting, news.
Another project is to put more pictures of Stillington's famous celebrations on the site. The starting point has been the 1977 Silver Jubilee. Most of the pictures have now been edited and will soon be available. It looks very much as though there will be a total of three pages - there are just so many pictures! Look out for those!
Finally, a long term project has been a history of St Mary's Church, Marton. A very old structure, this building has a fascinating, but chequered, history. Sadly we are lacking in a wide range of images to illustrate the page but we are sure it will be of interest. That page will be ready by the end of February.

07 August 2017 Summer Trip
Nineteen Archive members enjoyed a wonderful Sunday afternoon at Sledmere House. Home of the Sykes Family, Sledmere is a fine example of a mansion in the Palladian Style, as was our own Stillington Hall.
Our group enjoyed both the house and grounds before retiring to the tea room for some well deserved refreshments. Many thanks to Michael Turvey, our Chairman, for organising the excursion.
