A thank you to our website users.
07 March 2010

News stories are like busses - wait for ages then two come along at the same time!

We were pleased in August when our website crossed the 7,500 hits mark. To us it proved that a website was a good idea. It wasn't so at our initial meeting, but with success comes acceptance.

Now the site has crossed the 25,000 mark, and in time for our AGM as well. It couldn't be better!

Thank you again to our users.

Keep visiting us, please, there are lots of projects underway and will be on the site as soon as they are ready.

Quiz fundraiser.
06 March 2010

We owe a big thanks to Graham and Christine Cookman who organised a fantastic quiz for us as the last one of a series of monthly mindbenders which has occupied this past winter season. Also a huge thanks to everyone who attended and raised for us a fabulous £242!

We will be spending this money on storage. No, not boxes or chests as our collection is all electronic! But data storage.

At the moment our collection is scattered about on various computers, memory sticks and partly on this site. We want to consolidate everything on to a portable harddrive, with two memory sticks which can be used as backup and for transferring data. This will not only be much safer but will, hopefully, ease the process of uploading data onto this website.

We estimated at least £160 was needed to do this, now we have more to play with we can buy a much more powerful harddrive.

Watch out for an update on this development!

First AGM
15 February 2010

It seems incredible that it is nearly a year since the Archive Group adopted a constitution and formed a management committee.  We have done a great deal so we are looking forward to updating all our members on the progress of this project at our first AGM.

This will take place on:

Wednesday 17th March at 7:30 in Stillington Village Hall.

Anyone is welcome to attend.

However members only are allowed to vote on the issues tabled. So why not become a member and have a say in how we run this interesting project.

Once the general business is out of the way there will be an opportunity for ideas on where the next year should take us. We are particularly interested in thoughts on this website and how we can make the material we hold more accessible to the public.
